However, shorter goalkeepers will have an easier time reaching low shots as they can reach the ground fractionally sooner than taller keepers. In attacking and wide positions, height is not always important with some of the best players in the world (i.e. Lionel Messi and Maradona) being shorter than average. However, height is generally considered advantageous for central defenders.
