I cashed in my chips in 2003. Took my $400,000 and left. Most is in equities, hedged of course. Assets down 20% this year, hedges up nicely for a total gain of about 12%.
Point is this: LEAVE. I am currently in Vietnam, spending about $500 a month, in a 1200 sq ft house, with cleaning 3 times a week. I eat out, and drink at the pubs most days.
I do a bit of software work (10 hours a month). Other expats that I know teach english for $20/ hour.
So even just standing in front of a class, and reading the text to them, you get $20/hour. Tax free up to about 103,000 per year. About 25 hours a month to pay all your bills...
Just LEAVE. Leave the bills. Leave the taxes. Leave the stress. Leave the crap job. LEAVE.
Big world out there. Do not be afraid. The natives are friendly.
Generó polémica, Robert in Asia. Pero también proyectos. Una anonymous estaría dispuesta a hacer tantos kilómetros como Robert pero no tanta distancia cultural:
Y no, yo no sé mucho, pero no creo que puedas vivir con lujo asiático en Oceanía.
This is really depressing !!!!!
No hope for improvement in my lifetime. And, I have my elderly mother to care for as well and I am disabled. Disability insurance terminates once you become 65 years of age.
I'll need to look into New Zealand. Does anyone know about that country???????
